PORTRAIT IN PROGRESS
Greg's portraits usually are made through the same process. He starts with a piece of 8.5 x 11 plain white paper. Using regular pencils, a kneaded eraser and a ruler, he slowly but surely starts with the darkest parts of the portrait, gradually moves to the lightest parts, and then draws the eyes last. Here (below) are two examples of portraits in progress: U.S. Senator John McCain and South African musician and activist Vusi Mahlasela
(Side note: In advance, before anyone asks about the McCain portrait, Greg also has drawn Democrats - as well as many Americans who are not involved in politics. And, for that matter, many people -- like Mahlasela -- who are not Americans )
